what to order when at bad roman

I was excited to go to Bad Roman because it's a restaurant by the team at Don Angie, and there was a lot of hype surrounding it. I became less excited when I saw that it was having a TikTok moment, as I find TikTok-famous restaurants tend to disappoint. You can usually tell a "social media restaurant" when you see one. I also saw many mixed reviews about Bad Roman's food, but I will say that the food did surpass my relatively low expectations (though I won't be rushing back). It was solidly good.

I think it's a great restaurant for three specific situations. Firstly, it's a great option for a girls' night out since it has a fun atmosphere and good drinks. Secondly, since it is in Columbus Circle, it's great for a work event or before seeing a Broadway show. Thirdly, if you've heard the hype and just want to try it. I'm glad I went and got to check it off my list.

Before we get into the food, let me touch on the atmosphere. It's a massive space that screams "designed for social media." The decor is opulent and whimsical, with lots of fun touches (hence why it's a perfect spot for a girls' night out) that kind of coerce you into taking photos (and there you have a social media restaurant!).

What to order:

  • Roasted garlic babka - This was amazing. This or the ceasar would be my number one order.

  • Roni cups & ranch - This was actually really good, and I'm glad we ordered it. I'm not sure if I'd get it again since it's literally pepperoni and ranch, but it was surprisingly tasty for what it is, and it's a fun order, especially with a big group.

  • Spicy gem ceasar - This is a really, really good caesar. It's fresh, great flavor, has some crunch, and the perfect amount of dressing (not overly or underly ceasar-ed).

  • Short rib pappardelle - While not the best pasta I've had, it was very solid, and I would order it again.

  • Sauteed garlic spinach - This is a good side option if you want something on the healthier side on the table.

  • Tiramisu ice cream cake - This was really good. It's not the best dessert I've ever had, but I liked that it was not just the typical tiramisu. Instead, it was an ice cream cake version, which made it fun and different.

Don’t need to order:

  • Calamari fritto misto - Not anything special and was a little soggy.
