what to order when you go to san ho won
Such a great spot for a small dinner (I think it works best in a group of 4 or less, and is a good date spot). Really cool vibes, and I loved sitting at the bar where you can watch the chefs.
We weren’t sure how to approach the menu and wanted to get a taste of everything, so we actually chose to do the House Menu. It was expensive ($94 / person) but I think we actually would have spent more if we ordered everything individually, and would have probably ordered most of the same things. Below is what we got, with commentary on what I’d get again.
Kimchi - we got the SHW Baechu Kimchi, but it looks like it is no longer on the house menu.
Savory Egg Souffle - I’m happy I tried this, but probably wouldn’t order again as it’s big and I only wanted a few bites before it felt too rich.
Galbi Mandu (grilled beef dumplings) - it looks like these are no longer included in the house menu (replaced by scallion pancakes), but I will say, these were great. I’d get again.
Meats - of the meats we ordered, my top two were the jebi churi and house double cut galbi, but I would get all three again in an instant. The meats come with lettuce wraps and some sauces, and are definitely a must-get.
Jebi Churi (beef neck fillet) - this was my favorite. I actually liked this better than the rib cap, which was a bit fattier, but both were amazing. Tender and melted in your mouth.
House Double-Cut Galbi (marinated prime beef short rib).
Prime Beef Rib Cap - this was not on the house menu but we added it on.
Kimchi Jjigae Pozole - I would order this again, but would recommend only one to split. Didn’t need two full bowls, but it was really flavorful and delicious.
Seasonal Vegetable Bibimbap - I didn’t feel like this was anything special and wouldn’t get again.
Western Mushrooms - I’m not a big mushroom lover, but these were really good. Filled with butter, so hard to mess that up.
Nabak Kimchi - good, spicy!
Buckwheat Softserve Ice Cream - delicious and a must get.
On my wishlist for next time:
The corn! We saw it coming out of the kitchen and it looked amazing.
