what to order when you go to flour + water

The first time I went to Flour + Water was during covid, I sat outside, the pasta was extremely al dente and I was not super impressed (and never went back). After I went to Penny Roma (same owner) and loved it, I figured I should give Flour + Water another go. We didn’t have a reservation, but we were able to walk in and sit at the bar. We decided to do the pasta tasting menu which was amazing and I think even more fun to do when you sit at the bar so you can talk to the waiters more and learn about the food.

Here’s a run down on what we loved, and didn’t love, to help inform your decisions:

  • Pinzimonio - nothing really special (essentially veggies + dip), and would not order if it was not part of the tasting menu. But, the veggies were really fresh.

  • Amberjack Crudo - amazing.

  • Squash Arancini - so, so good.

  • Truffle Sformato - this was actually great. I was surprised because I don’t really like truffle.

  • Taleggio Scarpinocc - best pasta in my opinion.

  • Squid Ink Tagliarini - I had really high hopes for this because I love squid ink and it didn’t quite do it for me.

  • Tortellini En Brodo - great.

  • Lovage Agnolotti - great.

  • Grano Arso Orechiette - this was good but not my favorite.

  • Dark Chocolate Budino - rich but great flavor.

Did not order:

  • Today’s Ricotta - we had the sourdough with the tortellini en brodo, and it was out of this world, so I can imagine this is great.
