the best croissants in NYC: what to get when you want a croissant

 

My running list of the best croissants in New York City…

  1. Librae Bakery (9.2) - everything they make is amazing. Get the croissant, scone and white chocolate sticky bun.

  2. Ceci Cela

  3. La Cabra (8.8) - while the croissant is delicious, you also must-get the cardamom bun.

  4. Aux Merveilleux (8.4) - they’re most-known for cramiques, but the croissants are very good.

  5. Mah-Ze-Dahr (8.0) - good level of flakiness, but could have had a little more of a doughy inside.

  6. Petit Chou (6.9) - the very intricate, layered appearance of the croissant made me think it would be really flaky. And it was flaky in the sense that a lot of the layers crumbled off as you ate, but the flakes didn’t have that crunch to it. So, while it had a good doughiness and flavor, there wasn’t that (needed) balance between flakey crunch and soft doughiness, which is key to a great croissant. As you might have inferred from the name, they are most known for their chou and that’s what you should be getting rather than the croissant.
