what to do when you have 24 hours in big sur

ITINERARY

Stay: Treebones Resort. I would highly recommend staying here, but definitely try to book a tent with a bathroom. It’s beautiful and a really cool, unique experience to sleep in a yurt in Big Sur. Plus, the dinner is so amazing that I would stay just for that.

Day 1:

  • Pastries and coffee from Big Sur Bakery - the savory scone is a must get.

  • Hike Cruikshank Trail (5.2 miles).

  • Head to Treebones and check-in. Each yurt has a little patio, so have wine & cheese out there and enjoy the view. There is also a pool!

  • Book the early seating at Wild Coast (omakase restaurant at the hotel). There are only six seats so it’s very intimate, and it was truly the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. The views are unbelievable, and you get to watch the sunset while eating the freshest fish and talking with the omakase chefs. It’s a must-do.

Day 2:

  • Hike Salmon Creek Falls.

  • Lunch at Big Sur Bakery for the wood fired pizzas. You could also go to Nepenthe to try something new, but note that it has a bit of an institution feel (food isn’t great, lots of people). The view is really nice, though!

  • Drive home.
